One of the most popular tourist attractions in Budapest is the Great Market Hall. If you really want to see and smell the real produce of Hungary then visiting the Great Market Hall Budapest is a must.
The market has a rich and interesting history and has been a central part of Budapest (particularly for the Pest side) for more than one hundred years. In fact the Great Market Hall still offers the same produce, meats, spices and snacks that it did in the 1890s when the present building was constructed.
The three-story market was damaged by warfare in the early- to mid-1900s, and was fully restored in the 1990s.
It is a wonderful spectacle and the perfect place to pick-up a few souvenirs for your friends back home. On the ground floor, don’t neglect to try Hungarian pickles, langos (fried dough topped with sour cream, cheese or other ingredients), and Hungarian sausage. On the second floor, try some of the local eateries, or look for Hungarian crafts to take home.
