Undoubtedly the best times of the year to visit Budapest is during the summer when the weather in Budapest is at its best; hot and dry, the daily temperatures creeping above 30 degrees Celsius as everyone grips their fresh locally made ice-cream.
There are many great things to do in the summer weather in Budapest, such as visit the great public parks, summer festivals, swimming pools and restaurant terraces.
The long summer days mean that you will be able to do more sightseeing, and in the pleasant evenings you can simply sit and soak in the atmosphere on the terrace of a restaurant or a café.

Make a Splash
There is no better way to cool down on a hot summer day than to relax in one of Budapest’s great open-air pools. Check out the Turkish baths of Kiraly and Rudas, which date back to medieval times when the country was under Ottoman rule. You can also take the plunge at the Olympic swimming pool complex located on Margaret Island, in the middle of the Danube.
Summer Festivals Everywhere
Summer is also the season for festivals in Budapest, with celebrations being held all around the city. The Sziget Festival is held on the first week of August and it is one of the biggest music festivals in the world. More than 400,000 people will attend for a week of excellent concerts from international artists.
On 22nd June there is the Night of the Museums Festival, when museums throughout the city keep their doors open until 2:30 a.m., and host fun and interesting events.
Relax in the Park
Of course, an essential part of summer in Budapest is simply relaxing in the sunshine in one of the city’s parks. Margaret Island is well-known for its lovely green spaces, City Park has playgrounds, a zoo and an amusement park and Kopaszi-gat is a great place for a picnic.
If it is raining in the UK book a trip to Budapest this summer and enjoy the warm weather pleasures this beautiful city has to offer!
