If you are interested in learning more about the currency used in Budapest - both past and present – a great place to start is the Hungarian National Bank (Magyar Nemzeti Bank) Visitor Centre in the V district of Budapest close to Szabadság tér, St Stephen’s Basilica and the Hungarian Parliament.

Entry is free for adults and children making the Magyar Nemzeti Bank Visitor Centre a great free tourist attraction in Budapest.

Inside the centre you will need to check your bags and coats in the free lockers provided after which you will be free to explore the main exhibition area which chronicles the changing currencies used in Budapest and Hungary at large.

The visitor centre has a coin pressing machine so you can press your own souvenir for free during your visit.

The visitor centre also has a gift shop where you can buy commemorative Hungarian coins and notes and even gold bullion.

Large group visits – school and university trips – are also possible by appointment.

MNB Visitor Centre Opening Times:

  • Monday – Wednesday, Friday: 9.00am – 4.00pm
  • Thursday: 9.00am – 6.00pm
