Liszt Ferenc tér

Liszt Ferenc tér (or Liszt Ferenc Square) is one of the most popular destinations in central Budapest for enjoying the early evening sunshine with drinks and dinner at a reasonably priced bar or restaurant.

Located just off Andrássy út you will find a mix of upmarket Hungarians and tourists dining outside at most of the restaurants, except perhaps at Hooters Budapest which is also sited at Liszt Ferenc tér; there you will just find beautiful Hungarian girls wearing orang hot pants and tight white t-shirts – not necessarily a bad thing.

The restaurants’ terraces close at midnight so don’t arrive after 11pm if you would like to dine outside during the warm summer months in Budapest.

A Brief History of Liszt Ferenc tér in Budapest

Liszt Ferenc tér was previously known as Fabriekengasse (1785) and Factory Street (1850), before, finally in 1907 it was renamed Liszt Ferenc tér (or Liszt Ferenc Square) to coincide with the opening of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music.

Best Restaurants & Bars in Liszt Ferenc tér in Budapest

These are some of the best restaurants and bars in Liszt Ferenc tér. For more of the best Budapest bars and restaurants including reviews and special offers see our Budapest Guide:

Karma Cafe & Restaurant

A cute and friendly cafe/restaurant located on Liszt Ferenc tér Karma Cafe & Restaurant has an extensive and eclectic menu which includes traditional Hungarian dishes, international choices, Indian food and wok dishes.

If you are not really too sure what you feel like eating there should be something on the menu to tempt you. The heated terrace is always popular in summer and the service is always at the level you would expect.

Hooters Budapest

Hooters Budapest has been a bit of a revelation since it opened due to Budapest’s popularity with stag parties and of course because of the beautiful Hungarian girls men love to gaze at. Hooters serves an American style menu of beer, burgers and fried chicken alongside the playful attention of the Hooters Girls. So the food is perhaps a little overpriced and you might feel like a sex offender when entering or leaving the restaurant/bar but if you have teenage boys to entertain or you just want to enjoy the company of some fun girls head to Hooters Budapest.

Mai Mano Kávézó

A beautiful Moraccan style kávézó serving a good selection of traditional Hungarian dishes, such as Hungarian goulash, alongside international favourites Maimano Cafe is a popular restaurants in the summer. The terrace is cooled by fans and heated by outdoor heaters when required and there is a large screen TV showing important sporting events when appropriate.

Bohémia Bistro

A great little Hungarian bistro Bohémia is popular with tourists and locals equally. With lots to choose from if you would like to try Hungarian food including Brassoi pork loin with baked pepper salad and goose liver filled ravioli with butter toasted almonds there are few better destinations for some good value outdoor summer dining.
