Pest Walking Tour Directions

Start on the Pest side of the Szechenyi Chain Bridge (Széchenyi Lánchíd) which is in front of the Intercontinental Hotel Budapest, Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge and Four Seasons Gresham Palace Hotel. The green square in front of the bridge is Széchenyi István tér.
If you walk round the edge of Széchenyi István tér to the side away from the Danube you will find Gresham Palace. Walking past Gresham Palace and taking your first right will take you on to Zrínyi utca which has several good restaurants on it to enjoy.
Walking along Zrínyi utca you will find the Hungarian Policeman Statue. It is supposed to be good luck to rub his belly and it is a good photo opportunity.
At the end of Zrínyi utca you will find Szent István tér and St Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István Bazilika).
Taking a left immediately in front of St Stephen’s Basilica will take you on to Hercegprímás utca which if you follow all the way down to its end will lead you to the Hungarian National Bank (Magyar Nemzeti Bank).
Szabadsag Square (Szabadság tér) is next to the Hungarian National Bank and is also home to the US Embassy and the former Magyar Televizio Building.
Walking through the park in the direction of the Hungarian Parliament – which you should be able to see in the distance – will take you past the statue of Ronald Reagan to Vécsey utca which will lead you to Vértanúk tere which is where a famous ornamental bronze bridge depicting Nagy Imre is sited.
You will now be very close to the Hungarian Parliament which is located on Kossuth Lajos tér so get your camera ready again. If you are interested in visiting the Parliament follow our Hungarian Parliament Tour Tips or…
Walk away from the Parliament along Báthory utca and you will find the Batthyany Eternal Flame (Batthyány-örökmécses) and Aulich utca.
If you feel like enjoying a cold drink or an ice cream after your walking tour we recommend the Szabadság Kávéház which is historic in its own right and located next to the Batthyany Eternal Flame.
